Step into Dance is the outreach strand of the Royal Academy of Dance.
My Role
As a Step into Dance teacher I have worked in numerous Secondary schools across London. I have led ‘Step Together’ workshops, in which a Special Needs Secondary School and Mainstream Secondary school are brought together for a dance workshop, enabling them to foster new links within their local communities. I have also choreographed contemporary dance pieces with students from St Matthew Academy School in Lewisham, who have performed at borough community events and large scale events at the Royal Festival Hall.
Teaching Approach
Whilst teaching on the Step Into Dance programme I have taught a range of different Contemporary Dance Techniques to young people in London schools. I introduce the young people to a wide range of music in the sessions and often use creative tasks to allow them to take ownership of their movement phrases.
